Winners were announced for the 2020 BroadwayWorld Calgary Awards. Theatre Calgary, where Arima is currently Artistic Director, took home Theatre Company of the Decade and Best Theatre Staff.
The Musical Stage Company in association with Prime Mover Theatre Company is thrilled to announce the internationally renowned faculty for NoteWorthy 2020-21. Faculty include MICHAEL R. JACKSON, STEW, KIRSTEN CHILDS, STAFFORD ARIMA, with program mentorship by RAY HOGG and KEVIN WONG. Offered bi-annually, NoteWorthy allows composers, lyricists, and playwrights from across Canada to build foundational skills through master classes and guided collaborative writing assignments.
Stafford Arima will direct a digital version of Charles Dickens' classic tale, "A Christmas Carol" for Theatre Calgary. This newly abridged 80-minute adaptation by Geoffrey Simon Brown will feature a cast of three playing more than 25 characters.The play will feature Stephen Hair, who returns for his 27th year as Scrooge, Marshall Vielle Natay'ao'tako, and Jamie Tognazzini. The creative team includes: Scott Reid (Production Design), Katie Klingvall (Wardrobe Coordinator), Allison Lynch (Composer and Sound Design), Haysam Kadri (Associate Director), Jenna Rodgers (Dramaturg), and Jane MacFarlane (Voice Coach). The production will be filmed by Aaron Bernakevitch and 4K Film Production. The production will be available for audiences to watch at home starting December 11. The Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Canada will host an "Industry Session Series" featuring internationally renowned theatre-makers. Arima will lead a session, "The Biz of the Show" on the business side of theatre, from developing and directing new musicals, to working in the US and the UK as a Canadian artist, and running one of Canada's largest regionals. Arima shares experiences from a career spanning over 20 years and hundreds of rehearsal halls and venues, focusing on creating new work and supporting theatrical productions in all stages of development.
On August 8th, P.A. TOKYO will host a live, virtual premiere of a cross-continental musical collaboration entitled, "WeSongCycle." Writers from Australia, the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom come together through Zoom to write a musical based on the theme, heroism, directed by Makiko Shibuya. The writers will be guided by Broadway advisors: Rob Rokicki, Telly Leung, Mariko Kojima, and Stafford Arima.

Stafford Arima will direct a production of "Allegiance" in Tokyo next year. The musical, produced by Horipro Stage will be making its international premiere, which tells the story of Japanese Americans facing internment during World War II.
