Theatre Calgary announced today that Stafford Arima will be the new artistic director. Arima will be the 12th artistic director in the theatre's 49-year history. Theatre Calgary is Southern Alberta's largest and longest-running theatre company.
Bucks County Playhouse will present in the fall of 2017, the world premiere of "The New World" (music by Gary Adler, lyrics by Phoebe Kreutz and book by Regina DeCicco and L.F. Turner) with choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Stafford Arima.
Stafford Arima will direct the San Diego premiere of Lolita Chakrabarti's play Red Velvet at The Old Globe. Red Velvet follows the controversy that erupts when American actor, Ira Aldridge becomes the first black man to play the title role in Shakespeare's play, Othello. Casting and creative team to be announced. Previews begin in March.
The new musical Mary & Max starring Tony winner Shuler Hensley, Tony nominee Sydney Lucas, Julia Murney, Kyle Scatliffe and Lauren Elder will have a private presentation in New York City on January 9. Directed by Stafford Arima and written by Bobby Cronin and Crystal Skillman, Mary & Max is adapted from the claymation feature film by Academy Award-winning writer/animator, Adam Elliot.
